BC Bike Race 2008 Registration Opens September 18, 2007 12pm PDT

BC Bike Race 2008 Registration Opens September 18, 2007 12pm PDT

After a very successful inaugural race in 2007, BC Bike Race is back for the 2008 season and registration is raring to go!

For BC Bike Race 2008, June 28th-July 4th 2008, we will welcome up to 400 riders, in teams of 2 and 4, to challenge the 7 stages from Victoria to Whistler, BC.

While our inaugural 2007 event was a hit, we're putting together a bigger, better bike race for 2008. Simply put: more bike for your buck!

After this year's event, we asked our valued racers for suggestions for improvement going forward. Surveys said that the bountiful BC singletrack was an overwhelming highlight, so Dean Payne, BCBR President, has announced significant plans to increase the singletrack quotient for 2008. “Because we are located on the west coast of BC, we have access to an extensive array of some of the best singletrack mountain bike trails in the world. And our plan for 2008 is to bring the singletrack ratio up, way up…because we can! Finishing each stage with a descent on amazing singletrack is the goal.”

If you followed the 2007 race, you'll know that six-time 24-hour solo world champion and TREK VW Mountain Bike Team member, Chris Eatough, partnered with Eastcoast TREK Factory Team member, Jeff Schalk, to win the overall title for BCBR 2007. When all was said and done, Eatough sang praises of our inaugural event, “BC Bike Race was amazing. Best mtb race in the world. No doubt. Looking forward to BC Bike Race in 2008!”

And after dominating Stage 5, which was loaded with singletrack from the infamous Rat Race trail system on the Sunshine Coast, Eatough’s partner, Jeff Schalk, shared his enthusiasm, “It was honestly one of the first times I’ve totally forgotten about the race and just enjoyed the ride. It was just me and a friend bombing through the woods. That’s never happened to me before, so it really says a lot about the course.”

We are looking forward to welcoming Chris and Jeff back to defend their title in 2008!

With just 400 spots available, and a history of the other big epic mountain bike stage races selling out early, we're expecting a huge response to the 2008 registration opening online on September 18th.

Don't miss your chance! If you haven't already done so, check out the 2008 Race Package Details, get your team together, and join us for BC Bike Race 2008 - The Longest Singletrack Mountain Bike Race on the Planet!

BC Bike Race's own Grant Lamont, Course Director for Days 6 and 7, is staring down his 18th year at the helm of the legendary Cheakamus Challenge Fall Classic Mountain Bike Race.

The 70km point-to-point marathon is set to roll on September 22nd, 2007 and will showcase some of the best singletrack trails in Whistler: trails such as Trash, Ridge, Riverside, Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, Far Side, High Trail, Tunnel-vision and Big Timber make up the last 20 km of theday!

So, if you're in the Squamish-Whistler area on the 22nd, why not add the Cheakamus Challenge to your race list? As Grant says, "This is not a Loonie Race; this is a big bad Lumberjack of a race that has incredible views, solid aid stations and enough treats from the IGA to make you drool!"

How can you resist?!?
