Mourning the Loss of Two Dear BCBR Friends

Just over one week ago, outdoor adventurers Denis Fontaine and Richard Juryn were in the midst of an epic training exercise with a group of friends when things went terribly wrong. Risking rough seas while kayaking in the midst of a storm in Howe Sound, Denis and Richard lost their lives to hypothermia when their kayak capsized, leaving them to attempt to swim for shore in frigid waters.

Denis was a big part of the BCBR maiden voyage last year (those who raced surely crossed paths Denis at some point during the event!) and Richard was a huge contributor to the growth of mountain biking on the West Coast.

We were deeply saddened by this news and join the adventure racing, mountain biking, and outdoors communities in mourning the loss of two incredibly bright spirits. Please see our Blog for a tribute to these amazing guys. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to their families and friends.

In their memory, we will ride on....
